Description
1939 MK1A Spitfire N3200 pictured at Shoreham Airshow in West Sussex, England, August 2014. The N3200 never made the Battle of Britain but as part of 19 Squadron flown by Squadron Leader Geoffry Stephenson, it was involved in operations to protect the evacuation of the B.E.F. from Calais on 27 May 1940. The Spitfire was hit and Sqdrn Ldr Stephenson undertook a forced landing near to Sangatte. The Sqdrn Ldr managed to escape only to be captured later and eventually end up in Colditz Castle and was involved in the potential escape bid from the castle by Glider.
The remains of the Spitfire were recovered in 1986 and since restoration began. Spitfire N3200 took her first flight since May 1940 on 26 March 2014.
Restoration and information (with thanks) by Historic Flying Limited.
